Experience

I have been working as a tutor since 2014. I have experience working face-to-face and online.

I am comfortable running private one-to-one sessions, or working with multiple students at once. I also produce and deliver regular online courses to top UK and International schools through Keystone, most recently for TSA Oxbridge applicants.

While my background is in English and Geography, I have expanded my teaching areas in the last few years. I have become one of Keystone's leading TSA Oxbridge and Critical Thinking tutors. I am increasingly helping students with school and university application processes as well, including interview preparation and personal statement help. I work with students preparing for 11+, 13+, GCSE, 16+, A-level/Pre-U, IB, university entry, and the occasional university dissertation.

I have experience working in a classroom setting, although most of my teaching is currently online. I have experience working with students with learning difficulties (including dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD, Asperger's and autism). I have lots of experience working with students who are experiencing anxiety and stress around upcoming exams/assignments, as well as students with unique learning styles and revision preferences.

Biography

I grew up in Buckinghamshire and completed my secondary schooling at Dr. Challoner's Grammar School in Amersham. My A-levels were in English, Geography, French, and Mathematics (AS). I later studied BA English at University of Leicester, before completing my MA in English at King's College London. I began tutoring part-time during my studies.

After a bit of travelling, and a couple of corporate jobs in the City of London, I decided to focus more on tutoring in 2014, and as of now, am tutoring full-time.

As someone who has progressed through the grammar school system with the aid of tutoring, I am passionate about sharing my knowledge with other students, to help them on their academic journeys.

Approach to Tutoring

My first priority is getting students interested in their subject, while encouraging a hard work ethic and suitable approach for exam preparation.

I tailor my tuition to each individual student, and use a variety of engaging resources in order to get the best level of participation. I am quite forward-thinking in my approach - I often use visual aids or online materials (YouTube, podcasts, links etc.) to supplement my core teaching. Sometimes I use more traditional approaches such as working through past paper questions and developing exam technique, as this is particularly effective in the lead up to exams. I speak candidly with students and parents alike in order to inspire and motivate.

I will ask students to write practice essays or past papers as homework tasks.

When not tutoring

I play piano and produce music.

I'm a big sports fan and into health and fitness. I grew up playing football. Nowadays I enjoy the gym, golfing and skiing.

I self-published a children's book in 2018 and have my own blog. I completed a summer Creative Writing Course at Cambridge University's ICE (Institute of Continuing Education) in 2019.

I also run my own company, Be More Me, which aims to help young people make authentic and fulfilling career choices as they enter the world of work.
