Kiera

Kiera is a Cambridge graduate and writer. She has QTS and has worked as both a primary teaching assistant and secondary languages teacher in schools. She teaches across the age range. Her approach to tutoring is gentle and fun. She also has experience working with students with SEN.

I tutor across the age range and has experience supporting a wide range of learning styles.

I have extensive experience tutoring students for the 11+ and 13+ for English. I have worked with many EAL learners and students moving from schools overseas to high-tier British independent schools. I am especially equipped to help with creative writing and organising ideas in writing, since I have an MA in creative writing.

I am a linguist as well as a literature aficionado and employ a variety of evidence-based methods that speed up language acquisition and make it more enjoyable. I have coached students to make wonderful progress ready for A levels, GCSEs, IB, and school entrance exams..

Several students received 8s and 9s in their final GCSE and A-level results, including one who progressed from a 5 to a 7 through my help with French oral after only a few lessons.

Biography

I have been tutoring since 2017. I’m a qualified teacher, and I have five years and over 400 hours of tutoring experience. I was born in the UK, and I have lived in France, USA, and Norway. I’ve taught students from all over the world: China, France, Italy, USA, Sweden, Argentina, Romania, Egypt, UAE. My mother tongue is English, and I’m also functionally fluent in French and Norwegian. My BA is in Arabic and French from the University of Cambridge (2016). My PGCE is from UCL (2018)

Approach to Tutoring

Many of my students are homeschooled, including young athletes, performers, children who travel a lot with their families, or have other reasons to step outside of mainstream schooling. Others are seeking support for specific learning needs and neurodiversity, catching up from time off school, or are preparing for important transitions and exams. I’m a place2be Mental Health Champion and take a warm, friendly, and humour-filled approach to teaching that works especially well for anxious, disengaged, or SEN learners.

When not tutoring

In my spare time, I practice yoga and enjoy reading poetry and spending time outdoors. I am always studying new languages, my latest is Norwegian!
