Nicoletta is an IB teacher in one of the London leading schools. She holds a first-class degree in Modern Languages from Milan University and is a former student of the Sorbonne in Paris. She has been teaching languages for over 20 years and is passionate about helping students of all ages with language skills and literature, focusing above all on the enjoyment of mastering a foreign language.

I have taught French and Italian to all levels and have worked at Godolphin and Latymer School. I tutored students in Italian and French, preparing them for their GCSE, A Levels and IB diploma. I specialised in helping with grammar, literature, paragraph writing and general essay writing skills. I also conducted assessments and identified gaps in knowledge.

I have designed and developed individualised tutoring strategies for students at the Ecole Bilingue Jeannine Maneul, Paris. I offer linguistic support to anglophone students settling in at the Ecole Bilingue Jeannine Manuel, Londres and I also hold free weekly English conversation groups on behalf of Londres Accueil, a French charity for francophones in London.

I have taught students with learning difficulties such as Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Hypermobility, ADHD, Turner Syndrome and disorders such Bi-Polarity and Autism.

Biography

I was born in Rome but have spoken French and English from a very young age. I work as an IB teacher in one of the leading schools in London. My background is International and it has allowed me to master four languages: French, English, Italian and Spanish. I graduated from Milan University, Institute of Modern Languages, with a first-class degree in English and French Literature, and I then went to obtain a professional diplôme in Interpreting and Translation, Paris and afterwards diplômée mention très bien in Language and French literature from La Sorbonne, Paris. I have 20 years experience as a trilingual French/English/Italian tutor, working with pupils from a wide range of backgrounds, ages and cultures.

Approach to Tutoring

My rigorous academic studies and my strong skills in literary criticism and analysis have given me an in-depth knowledge of languages and literature, which I combine with a fun, focused, and practical approach, in order to share my passion for languages with my tutees. I am committed to making my on-line lessons interesting, engaging and interactive and I am fully equipped and experienced in all the major on-line platforms (Zoom, Skype, Bramble, etc). I work principally on a one-to-one basis with students but I regularly also work with small groups and I have run many groups workshops on specific themes.

The philosophy of my teaching has been well expressed in the interview about my profession as an IB teacher and tutor published in ''La Republica'' on 19 April 2024. For me, ''teaching is not filling a gap, but preserving the desire of Knowledge'' . The heart of my style of teaching, as I call it my philosophy, is that it does not matter ''how smart you are, but where and in what you are smart''.

I have a hands-on tutoring approach and I am extremely patient and understanding, while ensuring that my pupils achieve their full academic potential and grades. I particularly enjoy building a strong personal rapport with my tutees and understanding their personal learning style, strengths and development areas so that I can tailor and adapt my teaching methods and program to really help them learn rapidly, with confidence and enjoyment. I am also experienced and apply differentiation strategies with students with dyslexia, Turner Syndrome, anxiety issues and ADHD.

I have a varied group of students, ranging from 7 plus to GCSE, A levels , IB A French and Italian Lit , Ab initio Italian and French , IB B French and Italian, IB A French and Italian Lang and Lit HL and SL and Oxbridge candidates, university students to adults learning French, English and Italian.

When not tutoring

Languages, literature and philosophy are my lifelong passions so I usually relax by discovering new authors, going to the theatre and occasionally attempting to learn the basics of a new language, such as Portuguese or German!

Although I have lived in London for nearly 30 years, I am still very much continental and I love cooking many dishes and travelling back to my home country when I have time.

I have two daughters: E. at Cambridge University and C. at HEC France. Of course I love to spend time with them as well as my crazy French dog!
