I have a PGCE in Chemistry Secondary Education and have been a teacher now for 7 years. I have taught IB chemistry for 5 years at higher and standard level. In additional I have also taught and privately tutored A level chemistry, IGCSE/GCSE chemistry, biology and coordinated science and also key stage 3 science.
After taking my A levels in Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics I went on to do a Master of Chemistry degree at the University of Liverpool where I gained a first class degree. I then went on to work as a Senior Clinical Scientist for the NHS, during which time I also completed a Master of Science in Clinical Biochemistry. I did this job before training to become a teacher. I have a teaching qualification (PGCE) and qualified teacher status. I have worked in China for the past 5 years as the Head of Science for a department of 20 members of staff. I am a passionate and outstanding teacher with a proven record of my students achieving top exam results (my latest cohort achieved a significant number of level 7s and well above the world average for IB HL Chemistry. In addition my Extended Essay student achieved an A grade).
Every student is different in the way they learn and therefore every lesson is planned for that individual. I definitely do not agree with a lecture style approach to teaching but instead I find that using inquiry based techniques with questioning enables the student to make the maximum progress. I am energetic and engaging and will utilize lots of different strategies during the lesson. I have access to exam questions and will spend time to teach different exam strategies and how to gain full marks.
I am currently in England and working part time in a 6th form college teaching Chemistry and Biology A level. I private tutor during the rest of the week. I enjoy to private tutor as I like to see students progress and create lessons that are all individualised to meet the needs of each student. One of the aspects of private tutoring that gives me a lot of satisfaction is to see a student who had no interest in science choose to continue their studies in a science related area because they have enjoyed my lessons so much. When I am not tutoring, I like to go hiking with my dog or running in the outdoors.
