Over the past 5 years, I have tutored a broad range of students (aged 7 to adult) across a range of subjects (including English, History, and Religious Studies) and for a wide variety of curriculums (including i/GCSE, A-level, school and Oxbridge application prep, and International Baccalaureate). I have worked with a range of students for the English aspect of their 7+, 11+, and 13+ entrance exams to a range of competitive private schools across the UK with great success. As a result, I am familiar with the requirements of such exams, and have developed techniques to help young students maintain focus and develop their critical thinking and comprehension skills.

Biography

I began tutoring students for their GCSEs and A-levels whilst a student at Oxford. After completing my BA (joint hons.) in History and English, I travelled to France for 3 months to do TEFL. I then spent 6 months managing an online tutoring company. In this role, I managed over 200 tutors and a portfolio of global tutoring clients who were applying to top UK schools and universities (primarily Oxford and Cambridge), and the relevant exams they needed to sit. I guided clients through their application processes, and personally matched them with excellent tutors, taking on History and English students personally. As a result, I am deeply familiar with what makes a strong application to all top UK schools and Oxford and Cambridge.

After working with this company I studied for my MA and became a civil servant. Throughout this period I continued to be a professional private tutor, coaching and mentoring students through some of the most difficult application processes in the world, and working with hundreds of students in the process.

Approach to Tutoring

Every session is adapted to the needs of my students, and I will work with both students and parents to develop a learning plan that will best suit a student's learning style and goals. I have a lot of experience with a range of exam boards, so when helping students prepare for exams I always explain what examiners are looking for, and will teach, set, and mark written work in this style, so that students can feel confident in an exam setting.

I am very friendly and approachable, and enjoy talking about a range of subjects and topics (from 20th Century American history to medieval European history, and more!). I bring my enthusiasm for my subjects to all sessions, and look for ways to help students be equally excited by these subjects, developing their love for learning in order to help further motivate them positively in their journey.

When not tutoring

Alongside being a professional private tutor, I work 9-5 for the civil service on the prestigious Fast Stream scheme. I have been a private tutor for over 6 years and will continue to do this. In my spare time I have served as the trustee of a regional mental health charity, and run an educational feminist CIC. Before joining the civil service I completed an MA in Gender and International Development at the world-renowned Institute of Development Studies in Sussex.
