Non-verbal reasoning is a type of problem-solving centred on shapes, figures and patterns. It tests your ability to think logically and understand the relationships between patterns and numbers.
What types of questions can I expect in the UKiset non verbal reasoning exam?
You will be assessed on a range of questions that test your understanding of concepts such as nets, similarities, odd one out, codes, matrices, and analogies.
Algebra - codes using position and direction
What’s the skill?
These types of questions require you to identify the correct code for each feature of a figure. You’re then required to apply this knowledge in order to identify the correct code for a new figure.
Codes
Look at the figures on the left hand side. Identify which letter stands for which feature of the figure. Then look at the figure on the right hand side. Identify the correct code for the right hand figure and select the correct answer option.
Additional Reflections

Placement
What’s the skill?
These types of questions require you to identify similarities between a set of figures, and then apply this knowledge to a new set of figures.
Isomorphic Relationships
Look at the figures on the left hand side. Identify what they have in common. Then select an answer option that shares the similarities between the figures on the left hand side.
3D view of 2D pictures
What’s the skill?
These types of questions require you to visualise how a 2D net could be folded to create a 3D box, and the new position of each net face in relation to one another.
Which Cube can be Made from the Net?
Look at the net shown below. ldentify which of the cubes on the right hand side could be made from the net on the left hand side.
Shapes and Shading
What’s the skill?
