I have several years of experience tutoring pupils for the 7+ and 11+ exams, with my students receiving offers from prestigious schools such as St Paul’s, Westminster, Wetherby, and Dulwich. I currently teach in an independent school and have specialist experience working with SEN children, supporting a range of specific needs including Dyslexia and ADHD.
After finishing secondary school in Australia, I moved to Japan to complete a one-year exchange programme. Upon returning to Australia, I completed a Bachelor of Arts and a Diploma in Education, achieving a distinction grade average. I taught in Australia for two years before moving to London, where I developed a sound knowledge of the British Curriculum.
With over 20 years of teaching experience, I have honed my skills in personalised, well-structured, and scaffolded lessons tailored to meet the individual needs of my pupils. My expertise encompasses both mainstream and SEN settings, allowing me to effectively support and enhance the learning journey of every student I work with.
Each of my lessons is personalised, well-structured, and scaffolded to meet the individual needs of my pupils. I focus on catering to their strengths and interests to enhance their learning experience. I assign tailored homework and tasks between lessons to reinforce concepts and ensure continuous progress.
With over 20 years of teaching experience, I am adept at identifying the next steps required for my pupils to advance towards their academic goals and beyond. I have developed an effective system for raising attainment in writing, which includes a points system. Points are awarded for using ambitious vocabulary, punctuation, structure, and figurative language. My pupils enjoy seeing their points increase as we edit and up-level their writing, helping them to see themselves as competent writers.
My manner is calm and friendly, always aiming to build confidence in every learner.
When I am not tutoring, I teach part-time in a central London independent school and also work as an artist. I recently illustrated a children’s book and made art in my spare time. Prior to the pandemic, I began training as an Art Psychotherapist, in the future, I intend on completing my training. Tutoring supports this goal as I save up towards my master’s degree. I am interested in ways to support mental health and emotional well-being. I love to swim, cycle and work on my Japanese language skills; I am also in the process of turning my home into an urban jungle, with the number of house plants there!
“Sarah tutored our son through the 7 plus process, resulting in him receiving an offer for St Paul’s Juniors. We couldn’t have higher praise for Sarah. She was always punctual and efficient. Our son loved his lessons with her, he found his learning with her fun. Her explanations were extremely clear and lessons were structured according to need. Thanks so much Sarah.”
Father of Student''Sarah tutored all three of my children across a four year period. My eldest daughter has dyslexia and Sarah helped boost her confidence in reading and writing. My son and daughter both worked with Sarah on the 11+ exams and did really well. Sarah is patient and the children looked forward to her sessions each week. I would certainly recommend Sarah as a tutor.''
Mother of Students''We can only talk very positively about Sarah - she is very competent and has a really great attitude. She makes the lessons very fun and our son is happy to work with her and says she is his favourite teacher of all. She is also always very helpful and ready to go the extra mile.''
