Shortly after finishing my Masters at university, where I read Astronomy, I backpacked around the world teaching English (TEFL) mostly to young children at international schools. It was at this point that I realised I loved teaching and helping pupils succeed. Upon my return I pursued a career in Finance. Whilst I found this interesting, I knew that teaching was my long-term aspirational career.

I have been a tutor for over two decades, mostly teaching Mathematics, Physics, Astronomy, Accountancy and TEFL. I obtained my PGCE several years ago and although I have worked in state schools, most of my classroom experience has been in the independent school sector. During the pandemic I realised that I very much enjoyed teaching from home and so became a full-time online tutor.

I am patient, flexible and enthusiastic about the topics I teach. I love Maths, however I also hope to instil a joy of life long learning too.

I listen very carefully to the learning requirements pupils and parents/guardians communicate to me and modify my teaching style appropriately.

Some parents, for example, may ask that I take an audit of their child's current level, identify gaps in knowledge and design tuition to meet their targets accordingly.

In other cases, parents see that their child may be losing confidence in their mathematical ability, e.g. due to school absence, and therefore ask me to help with boosting their child's confidence as well as catching-up with missed topics.

With regular assessment it is possible to provide feedback of what topics have been covered, the progress made and what can be done to improve.

I work as a self-employed full-time online Maths, Physics, Accounting and TEFL tutor.

My main tutoring times are usually afternoons, evenings and weekends (GMT). When I am not tutoring I enjoy gardening, DIY, cooking and visiting National Trust or English Heritage sights.
