I have been teaching for 20 years, including time as Head of Year and Head of Humanities.

I have taught internationally for the most part of the last 15 years, where I have taught in high performing international schools where students and teachers are under pressure to achieve outstanding results. My students' exceptional exam results over the years are testament to my success.

My particular strength is supporting students to take that extra step, to get from the B/A to A* or in IB terms to push for the 7. This has been vital in the high-performing schools I have worked in where parents and students are driven to achieve. My lessons are always engaging with high expectations of students.

Biography

My own passion for Geography was established studying at St Paul's School in London, I can distinctly remember a lesson about the Okavango Delta that prompted me to declare I was going to Botswana in my gap year! It instilled a fascination for all things related to geo, which I endeavour to impart on my students.

I have been teaching for 20-years,including 10+ years in leadership roles, most recently as Head of Department.

Prior to teaching I worked in the voluntary sector for an International Development NGO, a London-based Homeless Charity, and a mental health charity. It was a brief stint working at Harrow School in Thailand that prompted me for a full career change.

Approach to Tutoring

I am a highly motivated Geography and Global Politics teacher. I feel that my passion and dedication to my subject and my students enable me to connect well with students in a tutoring environment.

My tutoring approach is very much linked to my teaching philosophy outlined below. All lessons are tailored to the needs of the student, I build a strong rapport with students so as to make lessons engaging, but alongside this I have high expectations and create an environment where students have the confidence to achieve.

My teaching philosophy is very much focused on the needs of the learners; I have found that learning can be so much more effective when students feel empowered and the very best lessons are those when the students are fully involved in the learning that is taking place. I am passionate about working to ensure that I create a culture where all students have the confidence to contribute and challenge.

When not tutoring

When I'm not exploring far-flung corners of the globe, I still do enjoy the outdoors life - hiking particularly, and am a keen runner though I've not run a half-marathon for a few years now.

I have recently started playing the Flute again, after a decades long break and it is wonderful to re-establish that in my life.
