I have extensive tutoring experience at KS3, GCSE, A level and undergraduate level to a range of abilities both online and in-person, with over 1300 hours of lessons completed. I primarily tutor Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Further Mathematics, as well as Medical Admissions Tests (BMAT and UCAT) and university application mentoring. I am responsible for crafting tailored lesson plans for individual students of differing abilities and learning needs (dyslexia, dyscalculia) across a wide range of subject areas. I have received consistently positive feedback with proven results of student success and achievements.

In addition, from Oct 2021 - May 2022 I was appointed as a Lecturer of Medicine at Worcester College, University of Oxford. I provided tutorials for 2nd year medical students who went on to achieve high marks in their exams; one student achieved the prestigious Gibbs prize for Medicine (top of the academic year). Alongside regular teaching, I also gave detailed written feedback on essays which were primarily focussed on critical appraisal of recent literature in the field. I was responsible for the organisation of the tutorial schedule which required coordination of a group of 6 tutors, including myself, teaching across a range of subjects.

Finally, from Sept 2017 - Dec 2017 I worked as an au pair in northern Italy for a family with 3 small children (age 3, 7 and 9). I was responsible for regular tuition at home, including English, Maths, and Science lessons, as well as helping with homework set by their school; I thoroughly enjoyed making lessons fun and thinking of new ways to engage the children in learning.

Biography

I grew up near Brighton, East Sussex and attended BHASVIC for sixth form before gaining a deferred entry place for Medicine at the University of Oxford. During my year out, I lived in Italy for 3 months as an au pair and then travelled and worked in Asia for 4 months. During my medical degree I have tutored regularly alongside my studies as I thoroughly enjoy both the learning and teaching process. The majority of my tutoring has been online but I have also provided lots of face-to-face tuition for my own private students. In addition, I also secured a lectureship at Worcester College, University of Oxford where I delivered neuroscience tutorials to undergraduate students, as well as marking essays in the critical appraisal of research literature.

Approach to Tutoring

I believe it's critically important that questions are encouraged to stimulate an active learning process; this is something I try to cultivate in my tutoring sessions. I hope to provide valuable assistance to my students and allow them to develop their understanding in a dynamic learning environment at their own pace.

I usually find it most helpful initially if the student has some subject/topic specific questions that we can discuss and work through. We can then develop a plan and time frame to ensure that goals are met and particularly problematic areas are adequately covered. I will usually use relevant past paper questions to direct the session; I can then delve into further detail of a subject if it is clear that it has not been clearly understood. I also encourage active student feedback so that my teaching style can be tailored to how the student feels they work best.

When not tutoring

When I'm not tutoring, I am a keen sportsman and enjoy playing football, squash, tennis, and have a passion for watersports (such as surfing, kitesurfing and wild swimming).

I have recently completed my degree in Medicine at the University of Oxford, having previously graduated with a BA in Medical Sciences. From September, I will be starting a Masters degree in Public Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Following completion of my Masters, I plan to begin my foundation medical training in the NHS and aim to continue tutoring alongside.
