This year I have been teaching or tutoring, both face to face and online:

- IB English Literature and Language courses, at SL and HL

- 11+ English (School Entrance Exams)

- 13+ English (ISEB Common Entrance)

- GCSE and IGCSE English (various courses)

- 16+ School Entrance

- A-level and IB Diploma English

- Current affairs to a post-graduate student

In the past twelve months my students have gained entry to the best UK schools, including St Paul's and Wycombe Abbey, and Durham University.

Work at international schools has helped me to understand the needs not only of native English speakers and their academic requirements, but also of international students making the leap into the UK system.

I taught the IB for three years at an international school in Argentina, and am a confident and sympathetic IB, EAL and EFL teacher.

Teaching at a Suffolk prep school (2016) means I'm adept at preparing students for the Common Entrance exam, including scholarship papers.

I taught at University College School, Hampstead (2014-2016), at all age groups up to and including IGCSE and A-level.

I've also been posted abroad as a residential tutor, working flexibly with children up to 11 years old.

Biography

I'm an experienced English teacher and tutor who also works as a writer.

I have a PGCE from the Institute of Education, London (2004). During my teaching career I've worked across education sectors, from top London day schools to Buenos Aires international and UK state schools.

I write for Monocle among other publications, and am currently finishing a book commission on mountain culture.

I'm a great fan of the outdoors and when not in London I'm often in the mountains somewhere.

Approach to Tutoring

My students enjoy their lessons and achieve excellent results. Students appreciate my lively subject knowledge and enthusiasm, and I pride myself on being able to communicate clearly with young people.

I enjoy teaching and my practise is based on fostering intellectual curiosity and confidence, and approaching tasks with a sense of humour.

Student needs are paramount and I work closely with parents to identify these before designing lessons and resources accordingly.

When not tutoring

I'm often busy on writing projects. Recent features include work on astronauts, a World Cup winning rock climber and a robot orchestra. You can see some projects at https://portfoliopp.wordpress.com.
