I am a qualified chemistry and physics teacher (PGDE, QTS) with 18 years of classroom experience.
I have taught in state and independent schools in the UK and Spain. I have worked as a classroom teacher, teaching students from Year 7 - Year 13, and was head of a department for nine years.
I have tutored both privately, and through agencies, since the start of my teaching career.
Before teaching, I was an engineer, working in industry and academia. It became obvious though, that my heart truly lay in education, as I was always volunteering as a STEM ambassador for CREST, Young Enterprise, and the science museums in Birmingham and Glasgow. So, in 2005 I retrained as a secondary science teacher and I have never looked back!
As well as teaching the secondary science curriculum for many years, I am also an expert examiner for Edexcel and Cambridge International, a role that I greatly enjoy. After marking thousands of real-life answers, I know what it takes to get the maximum marks in an exam question and where students lose points.
This knowledge has been invaluable in preparing my students for external exams and they have achieved excellent results, with numerous A* at A-level. Many have gone on to study science, engineering, and medicine at top universities including Cambridge and Imperial College in the UK and Columbia and Northwestern in the US.
I have been a university counsellor since 2018, and I am knowledgeable about the application process for popular destinations such as the UK, US, Netherlands, and Ireland. I can advise young people and their families on all steps of the process, from selecting universities and degrees to writing essays and personal statements. I am also experienced in interview practice.
