I have 25 years of experience and expertise working with in independent schools in a variety of teaching and managerial roles in all key stages. My roles both in and out of schools have given me valuable knowledge and experience in preparing students for coveted academic schools of their choice, giving me immense pride and satisfaction in contributing to their academic success.

Schools worked in and examination experience of schools prepared for:

At Denstone Prep School, a 3-18 boarding school, I prepared students for CE 11+ entry to Denstone College. While at Highclare School, a 2-18 day school, I guided students through the 11+ for King Edward’s School and GL assessments for Bishop Vesey Grammar School. At Lichfield Cathedral School, a 3-18 day school with Choristers, I focused on CE 11+ preparation and GCSE (AQA).

During my time at Yarlet School, a 3-13 boarding school, prepared students for CE 13+ entry to schools such as Shrewsbury, Denstone, Repton, Rugby, Wrekin, and Moreton Hall. At St Joseph’s College and Prep School, I taught CE 11+, GCSE and A-level languages (AQA and WJEC), supporting students entering Newcastle Under Lyme School, St Joseph’s College, and Denstone. This extensive experience underscores my expertise in Independent school education and exam preparation.

Biography

Privately educated in Staffordshire, I deeply appreciate the transformative power of education when passion and potential are ignited. After completing A-Levels in English Literature, Spanish, History, and General Studies, I pursued my love of languages and communication at the University of Leeds, earning a BA (Hons) in Spanish and Media (2:1).

During my undergraduate studies, I enriched my experience by studying in Barcelona and teaching English in Madrid. I later obtained my PGCE at the University of Manchester, launching a rewarding 25-year career in the Independent sector, where I have worked across a diverse range of schools.

I am committed to ongoing professional development and have earned a Postgraduate Certificate in Special Educational Needs. This qualification has deepened my understanding and enhanced my ability to tailor teaching methods to meet each student's unique needs.

Approach to Tutoring

As a tutor, I understand that each student's academic potential and capabilities are unique. I have tailor-made tutoring sessions to address each student's individual academic needs and boost their confidence in readiness for their assessments. I have also provided them with challenging yet achievable coursework to ensure their preparedness for their academic and assessment requirements.

My tutoring techniques go beyond classroom learning to provide students with a holistic approach to learning. This approach is aimed at improving their overall confidence, study skills, focus, and time management abilities. I believe that these skills are fundamental and essential to academic success.

When not tutoring

When I’m not tutoring, I enjoy reading classic novels, exploring the theatre and cinema with my family, and traveling the world to discover new cultures and adventures. A keen runner, I take part in everything from fun runs to marathons. Above all, I cherish spending quality time and sharing my passions with my family and loved ones.
