How our Primary English tutoring works
Our Primary English tutors are passionate about unlocking the joy of reading, writing, language comprehension and grammar in young learners. Our tutors tailor the tuition to the individual needs and interests of each child.
Uniquely, Keystone exclusively employs over 60 full-time UK based tutors and also represents a highly select pool of freelance tutors. The Primary English tutors that are employed by Keystone go through a rigorous on-going training programme and have access to materials that Keystone has developed in-house.
Many of our Primary English tutors have prior teaching experience in primary and prep schools. They have an excellent grounding working with the KS1 & KS2 curriculum and have experience supporting young children with the rigors of the primary English curriculum and independent school entrance exams at 7+ and 8+.
Why parents come to Keystone for KS1 & KS2 English tutoring:
There is not a one size fits all approach to our primary English tutoring. What works for some children might not work for others, so our tutoring begins with an informal tutor led academic assessment. Along with a family’s academic aims, we use the results from this assessment to identify suggested areas to focus on within each tutoring session.

- Building subject confidence: Our tutoring provides students with the tools to succeed in independent school entrance exams, KS2 SATs or end of term assessments. Individualised attention, tailored to the needs of each child, our tutoring addresses specific learning needs and particular areas of development, filling in learning gaps and building subject confidence. Our experienced tutors are able to identify subject misconceptions, work on a child’s understanding and give them the tools to apply their knowledge.
- Advanced learning: For those students applying for a competitive secondary school or looking to challenge themselves academically, our advanced tutoring allows children to explore English in greater depth than the school curriculum in preparation for secondary school.
- Learning difficulties and special education needs: We work with a team of tutors who have extensive experience teaching primary aged students with special educational needs. The 1-to-1 tutoring environment allows students with educational needs more time to access, process and reinforce their learning, and, importantly, to ask for support.

Parents often ask us which books their children should be reading. In some respects, it’s the wrong question to ask – are there any books children shouldn't be reading? – but with children’s free-time seeming ever to shrink, there is certainly merit in searching out the best.
What Can Parents Do to Help 3+ Assessments?
In some areas of London some children as young as 3 are already embarking into the mad and unsettling world of 3+ assessments. Assessing for nursery entry has long been a feature of prominent Pre-schools in New York but has thankfully been more of a rarity on this side of the pond. Some schools use this assessment to select children for nursery classes, usually linked to sought after independent schools.
