I am an expert classroom practitioner, with consistently good and outstanding lesson observations since I started teaching in 2011. I have accumulated more than 10,000 hours of sustained practice in the classroom, the recognised minimum amount anyone needs to invest in something before they can be considered “world-class.” I have wide ranging history subject knowledge, including the topics which I have taught for several years, and drawn more widely from my BA (Hons) in German Studies, MA in Modern European History and my own areas of historical interest. I am regularly praised in lesson observations for my use of in-depth subject knowledge to engage the pupils.
I employ various adaptive methods, including task variation, outcome differences, extra resources for additional needs, strategic seating plans, and targeted questioning for SEND and PP students. As a skilled behaviour manager, I was appointed a pastoral leader in 2015.
I have built up and accumulated this experience as a teacher through the following roles (most recent first):
Head of History and RE (2023-24)
Head of Humanities (2018-23)
Head of Sixth Form (2017-18)
Pastoral Leader (2015-17)
Teacher of History (2013-2024)
I have taught history (KS3-5), geography (KS3-4), German (KS3-5), French (KS3-4) and RE (KS3-4) throughout my career.
Since 2017 I have tutored private clients for GCSE and A Level History. This has been arranged through local contacts and word of mouth.
In 2014 and 2015 I worked for OCR as a GCSE Examiner for History.
In 2017 I worked for Pearson Edexcel as an A Level Examiner for History.
