Andrew is a conscientious and friendly tutor who teaches a variety of subjects. He gained a PGCE in RE from Oxford University in 2022, and now tutors alongside working on various writing projects. Andrew's approach is student focussed and he aims to create a comfortable learning environment for each of his tutees.

I have worked as an RE teacher in a secondary school, teaching Philosophy and Ethics A-Level and GCSE RE. I have a particular love for Biblical Studies, and am comfortable teaching all three Abrahamic religions. In addition to this, I have assisted with EPQs and university applications, as well as with general essay skills and creative writing. Many of my students have surpassed their target grades, and all made outstanding progress during my time as their teacher.

I have a great deal of experience of working with children with SEN, and am able to tailor and differentiate my teaching accordingly. I enjoy teaching students of all ages and abilities, and believe that I am able to provide a challenging and rewarding education for all.

I have also worked extensively as an online tutor in a variety of subjects, including both KS3 and GCSE Maths, where I have worked with high-achieving students aiming to get the very top grades, and KS2, KS3 and GCSE English as well as preparing students for 11+ and 13+ entrance examinations. I also regularly run a weekly politics and philosophy discussion targeted at KS2 children, where I introduce them to current affairs and wider issues. I have also coached for essay writing competitions, and enjoy helping and advising with creative writing.

Biography

I grew up in Manchester, where I achieved 7A*s and 3As at GCSE at St. Bede's College, and studied Latin (A), Greek (B) and Theology (A) at A-Level, before going to Durham University where I received a 2:1 in Theology.

After University I explored a number of different career paths, before eventually deciding to become an RE teacher. I gained my PGCE in RE from Oxford University in 2022, and went on to become a teacher at a school in South-West London.

In my spare time I am a passionate writer, and due to being given the opportunity to do some TV writing I made the decision to leave teaching and carry on as a tutor. Now I split my time between writing and tutoring, whilst also furthering my studies of Classics and Theology.

Approach to Tutoring

I believe in creating a warm, comfortable learning environment where students (and teachers!) are free to make mistakes, and learn from their errors. Practice and repetition are extremely important, but so is questioning why we use the processes we use, and gaining deeper understanding of the subjects we are learning. In addition to this, learning should be an interesting and enjoyable experience, and I strive to make my lessons intricate and engaging.

When not tutoring

I am currently a TV and theatre writer, with a number of shows in development with various production companies. I also am a passionate reader, and enjoy long distance running.
